In the spirit of Valentine's Day (Which is actually a pretty interesting story. Here's a link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine's_Day), I thought I'd ask about other rituals dealing with ...Ahem ... love or other such. In the ancient times, there were all manner of rituals that revolved around sex and fertility. One of these I "borrowed" for my novel which is called in the Greek, the Hieros Gamos. This translates roughly to "Holy Marriage" and is regarding the joining of the Immortal with the mortal. (Hence the reason I adopted it for my book.) My understanding is that this is a largely symbolic ceremony, but I had to wonder if such had its origins rooted in truth. Could it be that the taking of human women by the Watchers constituted the very beginnings of this practice? What are other's thoughts on this? I'd be interested. Attachments:
